There are several arrangements of this piece:

Go to Easier Hawaiian Descant version (Liu), arrangement no. 4

1.  Cast upon a brutal shore, by cruel law and callous oar,
     A
bandoned there by fearful men, to these you sent Saint Damien,
     The loving heart of Damien.
2.  Damien, his motives pure, brought joyful tidings to the poor,
May I be, too, a bearer of, your consolation and your love.
     Your consolation and your love.
3. When I find the helpless here, imprisoned by the cliffs of fear,

Increase my love, enlarge my heart, that your compassion I impart,

That your compassion I impart.
4. If I see a brother ill, a sister shunned against her will,

Direct me quickly to their aid, give me a heart that’s not afraid,

A faithful heart that’s not afraid,
5. Grant me grace to give my all, in charity both great and small,

Encouraged thus to serve you when, I see the heart of Damien,

The loving heart of Damien.

Additional or alternate verses:
A.  When I hear a sister scorned, and when I see a brother mourned,

Expand the breadth of my embrace, as I am able with your grace,

As Damien did with your grace.
B.  They who cry out for relief, held captive by the waves of grief,

Embolden me to quell their pain, so joy and tenderness remain,
     Your joy and tenderness remain.
C. In the face of deep despair, when hopelessness is ev’rywhere,

Give me the strength to stand again, grant me the heart of Damien,

The steadfast heart of Damien.
D (Alternate final verse). Actions on that rocky shore, gave angels reason
to adore, And as he showed us, grant me then,
the gentle heart of Damien, The loving heart of Damien.
