The Poet's Apprentice
by Robert M. Mondoy
(a song of love)
It's hard to say, it's hard to sing, I keep
repeating the same old thing.
I don't know how each word will rhyme.
I'm trying hard to make it sound
like I mean this song to simply be
just a quiet way to help you see
That this feeling that began to
grow takes me farther than I want to show;
That I'd like you near
next to my dreams, but I know it takes more than a song, it seems;
But it's all I got and it's all yours, pretty one.
Laughter of the
morning sun, the final thought when day is done are you.
I see
you smile, you understand, these things just happen, they're never
planned.
See this dreamer in front of you who hopes for love this
fresh and new.
Though I cannot make you change your heart, please
remember after you depart
That this love which in the quiet glows is
a love that knows how to let go.
So I'll say goodbye, you'll go your
way, Hope we'll meet each other once again someday.
I've got my
life, and you've got yours, pretty one.
Laughter of the morning sun,
the final thought when day is done are you. (R. Mondoy, 1979)
